Key West Family Vacation Itinerary, Day 2
Key West vacation itinerary continues! Day 1 of our vacation itinerary included a gorgeous drive down Overseas Highway and a dinner at my namesake, Caroline’s Cafe.
We had another beautiful, hot day in Key West on our 2nd day.
Vacation Itinerary Day 2
The Reach Resort Poolside
A little chess and bocce entertained the girls this morning, especially with a background that was right out of a postcard.
A day at the beach isn’t common when visiting Key West unless you are staying at The Reach. This resort is the only hotel on the island with a sizable beach. It’s not huge by any stretch but it provides you with the toes in the sand feel you deserve when on vacation, plus plenty of room to make sand castles. Beach chairs and umbrellas are provided at no additional charge.
Dinner at Smokin’ Tuna Saloon
The key to keeping things kid-friendly in Key West is timing. A restaurant that might attract rowdy beer drinking vacationers doesn’t have that crowd in the late afternoon. We headed to the Smokin’ Tuna Saloon for dinner just before 5. The menu is great and they have kids’ dishes but not official printed kids menu. Just ask the waitress.
Great live music is a staple in Key West and Smokin’ Tuna had a great stage and set-up for just that. I’m certain that this saloon becomes a great place to come after kid hours to have a beer and listen to a local band.
We ordered a tuna dip appetizer that never arrived (waitress in training) and the girls shared a hamburger. I had a delicious blackened Mahi-Mahi sandwich and Tom had a tuna in a wasabi sauce. Both dishes were great.
