How I Spruce Up My Home For Thanksgiving

Autumn is filled with family time and festivities. Not only do we celebrate Thanksgiving Day, but our family celebrates 3 birthdays – one of which is mine. With everyone running in and out of the house, it becomes a bit of a party central. I love it, but it does take a bit of work to get us autumn party ready. Also, living in South Florida means we don’t necessarily “feel” autumn or see any the leaves changing colors. I clean for thanksgiving and create autumn in my house with decorations, and the family loves it.

I like to start with a clean canvas when I decorate and prepare for our indoor autumn. First, I will go through my home and put away decorations from the summer. I’ll spend some time in the playroom and toss some old toys in a box to donate . As I go I’ll pay attention to any touch up the house may need, and get inspired for decorating as I go from room to room.

I’ll deep cleaning as well, I recently stocked up on Disinfectant Scrubbing Bubbles® Bathroom Cleaner. Yes, I did leave the cleaning aisle several times to grab a few more things we “need!” Walmart. (Did I mention that I left with a new pairs of sneakers, too?)

How I Clean For Thanksgiving And Birthdays

Regardless the time of year, weekly, I sweep and mop – our home has no carpeting and the floor can get really sticky, really quickly.

I tidy the bathroom making sure the toilet, sink and shower doors aren’t covered in “fingerprints and soap scum. Both bathroom showers have sliding glass doors that look stunning when they are clean. My little ones love to put their little fingers all over them with bubbles. It’s okay, as long as I take the few minutes I need to get them back to crystal clear each week. Disinfectant Scrubbing Bubbles® Bathroom Cleaner works incredibly well every time, especially those times when the soap scum is so bad (thanks to the bubble bath) I just spray, walk away and wipe it down.

We have several French doors with glass panes heading to the patio. If the panes are full of fingerprints, the view to the back gets obstructed, and honestly just looks gross. I use Windex® Original Glass Cleaner to clean the panes, especially the ones closest to the door handle because those tend to get the messiest.

If I keep up with the weekly maintenance cleaning, my monthly deeper cleaning, isn’t too bad. There isn’t an ounce of me that enjoys ironing, so thankfully my husband helps out when he can.

The most enjoyable part of it happens when I have gotten the “canvas” clean for Thanksgiving and ready for the decorations. I’ll grab the bins I have stored in the garage full of autumn decorations. There are wreaths, turkey ornaments of all shapes and sizes and lots of red, yellow and orange decor. Home really feels like autumn in no time!
