We’re moms. Busy moms. Any moment we have to entertain, we’ll take. Often those moments are as simple and casual as having friends over, with kids, to kick back a relax. A parent playdate includes serving bite sized appetizers, opening a bottle of wine and letting the kids reek havoc in the playroom or run loose in the backyard, all without the need of babysitters or any formal planning. I love all of it! Parents need a playdate just like kids!
How often to do you do it? I’m sure not often enough. Make an attempt this month to invite friends over. Make it casual. Maybe turn on the BBQ if the weather allows. Invite the kids too so that no one needs to worry about babysitters!
Before the parent playdate, get these 3 things on hand to add a little heat and have a whole lot of fun!
- Get a dice and a board game! Are you guys a board game couple? We are! There are loads of fun games for adults and kids out there. Old school games like Pictionary and Scattegories to newer games like Apples to Apples and Bunco are great! A game of charades is also loads of fun, especially when the kids want to play along! Pick up a game or two and have them on hand. They are great casual party entertainment!
- Keeps yummy snack on hand! Packs of Farm Rich appetizers (often on sale at my grocer) are great! The new Farm Rich Queso Cheese Bites are a delicious appetizer that take just minutes to heat up in the toaster oven! Filled with creamy white cheese and breaded, they are truly bite-sized happiness! They’ve got the right amount of heat and are very easy to serve! You may need to make a separate batch just for the kids!
- Music is a Must! Keep your iPod stocked with current songs and not just umph umph workout songs or nursery rhymes! Download a variety of albums to have on hand. For our last parent playdate I downloaded the 2012 Grammy album for the night. It was a great collection of songs that everyone knew.
