Coca-Cola #FamilyNight with Celebrity Chef G. Garvin, Smarty Pants Mama & more! Giveaways!  Tues., 10/11 7-8PM EST

Using Sunday afternoon to prep for the week ahead is a Smart Mama strategy!  I recently Skyped with Celebrity Chef G. Garvin of Turn Up the Heat with G. Garvin.  He shared that being your own sous chef on Sunday can save a Smart Mama loads of time as the weeks kicks in.  Dedicating time on Sunday to dice your onion, carrots, peppers and other veggies will make dinner prep after soccer practice a whole lot easier.

Ground Turkey a Great Base!

Ground turkey is Chef Garvin’s go to protein. He finds it to be an easy base for a lot of meals.  Tacos, meatballs, meatloaf, and chili were some of his suggestions.  He also reminded me that sandwich night is another great way for a busy family to have a yummy, healthy dinner.  He reminisced of his childhood sandwich night and encouraged parents try it out.  Using protein that may have been used another night or store bought deli meats, plus yummy sandwich breads or wraps, families can have fun putting together their own sandwiches!  I loved this idea!

Roasted Chicken – Not only for sandwiches!

Along with ground turkey, Chef suggested moms to consider a roasted chicken to provide a few meals a week.  Depending on the size of the bird, chef not only brought up the sandwiches but having roasted chicken in a variety of ways for dinner. Making a different side – mashed potatoes one night and mac-n-cheese another- may be the only variety some families need with their chicken.

Have you tried any of these ideas?  Do you prep your veggies on Sunday or use ground turkey in a variety of ways each week?

It is a great idea to cook something good on a Sunday afternoon. Every Sunday afternoon, I cook something delicious for my family. Many of my neighbors go outside to have lunch on Sunday afternoon but I feel that Sunday is the day when all family members are present so they should sit together and eat to increase the bonding.
