Thursday Thirteen – Our Favorite Kiddie Songs!
As I spend so much of my day singing – no I’m no American Idol wannabe – I simply have quickly learned the power of music with my munchkin. Since her 1st days, music has soothed her. It could be my husband’s self-created “Say goodnight and go to sleep” song or the classical music CD, she would be fast asleep.
I have realized as she is now approaching her toddler years that music still holds quite a bit of power. When she has her form of a “temper tantrum” I quickly suggest that we sing Row, Row, Row Your Boat, she smiles and forgets about what was bothering her. The best songs are the ones that have movements, i.e. Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes. We sing during breakfast, lunch and dinner. We sing as she gets her diaper changed and during her splash splash time. Below is a list of our 13 favorite songs! 1. Row, Row, Row Your Boat We own a number of different children’s musical CDs that I have everywhere – the cars, her room, the family room, the kitchen! These CDs are great! We get to learn new songs, dance to the music, you name it! It is certainly a Smart Mama move to have music in your child’s daily routine! Here are some of my favorites! Does your munchkin enjoy music? Has it proven helpful as you tackle tantrums and night time? Share! |

We listen to all those songs too! They get so stuck in my head sometimes it makes me crazy.
By the way, I love your blog URL. I call my kids and the kids I volunteer with Smarty Pants all the time when they get things right…it always makes both of us smile. 🙂
Great post! Our baby is addicted to Itsy Bitsy Spider and it gets tiring and tedious singing the same song over and over. I can’t wait to try some of the other songs on your list. Who knows, maybe he’ll pick a new favorite soon!
Great list…and thanks so much for visiting mine (even though I’m jealous of you for living in Florida!)
My grandson is only 14 months old, but my son and daughter-in-law already surround him with music. When I was visiting them recently, they played a particular CD a lot in the car, and I could tell Payton loved it! I blogged about it here:

We definitely listen to lots of music..especially in the car.
When a meltdown is oncoming in the backseat I pop in one of my son’s favorite’s (these days it is all about laurie berkner) and crank it up…he instantly quiets and calms down
🙂
Now THAT is a great TT list!!
oh fun fun! I have been goign through music with drawls though. The radio in our car is out…so no musica for us!
I remember listening to songs with my children when they were small. Music is a wonderful way to pass the time on long car rides.
Happy TT!
As soon as my daughter could talk (and she was a prodigy in this) she refused to let me sing to her. “Mama, be quiet.” As I was a music major with a vocal specialty this presented a bit of a problem. Later in life we began singing duets together.
I am tone deaf to the nth degree, but I love to sing! The kids don’t care and we have so much fun.
Urgh, I hate to even do this because I am not somebody who begs you to come visit, but I posted a link today that might help you out!
I’m so happy to have found you thru hip mama’s place, you’re blog is great!
Cute list. Itsy Bitsy Spider is my fav.
Thanks for visiting my blog.
I sang way too many kids songs this week as we traveled. The things moms do for their children.
By the way, Part 1 of my series on Yard Sales is now up over at my blog. Come on over and visit!
