Dr. Seuss’ Birthday Celebration

Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss!  Yes, let’s celebrate that March 2nd is Dr. Seuss Birthday!  What does that mean to you?  For some of you, not much!  But for many, especially you Smart Mamas, it means another excuse to read with your child!  Dr. Seuss has grown to be the mentor of many authors, particularly those in the kids section.  His writing style and art have made his books classics from nearly the start.  We’ve all enjoyed stories such as Green Eggs and Ham and One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish .   They are books with rhyme, books with a great beat and often a cute, silly storyline!

Celebrating Dr. Seuss’ birthday (it would be his 112th) can be done in many different ways!  It could be as simple as reading an extra book before bedtime, a Dr. Seuss book at that!  Serving green eggs and ham while reading the book by the same name could be a silly, a very Dr. Seuss style way, to celebrate our love for reading.  Whatever you decide to do, enjoy it.  Make it fun.  Make reading something that is enjoyable, something that your kids look forward to.

On March 2nd some organized celebrations will be held across the globe to honor this children’s author.  Read Across America,  includes officials, entertainers and more reading to schoolchildren. At my daughter’s preschool some time ago, each child made a Dr. Seuss style hat where the white stripes state the names of books that they have recently read, or have had read to them. My youngest had a wacky hair and sock day! It’s fun to celebrate in true Seuss style.
