Review of Panasonic Lumix ZS40 Video Recording
Sometimes you just need to see it to believe it. I recently took out both my iPhone 5S and my Panasonic Lumix ZS40 to try out their video capabilities. The Panasonic Lumix ZS40 was given to me at a recent travel writing conference (TravelingMom Retreat.) I had spent all sorts of time trying out its photography capabilities during my days at Disney. I was impressed with all the cool features available with the Lumix. I was able to do all sorts of cool effects that aren’t within the reach of the average photographer, and most certainly not in the capability of my iPhone camera.
Lumix vs iPhone 5S Video Recording Comparison
It was a relatively bright sunny midday in Miami and the girls were jumping in and out of the pool. I sat myself on the edge of the pool, careful not to fall in and spoil the phone and new camera. My girls are both hams and were happy as can be to show off their pool jumps for the camera!
Watch my compilation of the two camera of the same scene. I took one video just minutes after the other. Pay attention to the sounds and colors. Note that I did not alter the volume of either and there was no microphone.
So what do you think? Is there a difference? Um, YES! I use my iPhone for my day to day videos because it can easily slip right into my back pocket. But in reality this new Lumix is being tossed into my bag whenever possible. If I want to capture memories with a camera, I want the memories to look and sound the very best they can. This Panasonic Lumix ZS40 can be purchased online for $450.
Love the Lumix, I had one for many years. I finally had to invest in a mirrorless to capture low light, but it served me well! the iphone is my camera when I’m too lazy to pull out my “real” camera or I need to be discreet.
