Going Skinny with Your Cocktails! Fabulous Cocktail Recipes that Won’t Stick to Your Thighs!
A cosmo, a delicious “skinny” cosmo…who’s interested? I know many of you are. Last weekend I hosted a BBQ and Cocktails night. Armed with a vat of Truvia, delicious cocktail recipes, and the martini & monogrammed double old-fashioned glasses that I received on my wedding day eons ago, I put together Skinny Cosmos and Raspberry Lojitos for my guests! It was a great opportunity to try a few new recipes…a new sauce for juicy ribs, a chicken dip that I had heard about and most importantly, new cocktails!
Sticking to the Resolution Not to the Thighs
In our continued promise to lead healthier lives this year, I am avoiding added sugar in my meals. The challenge, especially for a Smart Mama who enjoys a yummy cocktail every so often, is finding a healthier alternative to sugary liquors or straight white sugar found in many cocktail recipes like the mojito, cosmopolitan, and the recently popular Caipirinha.
Truvia, a natural sweetner, has a ZERO calories, is what I used instead of the common ½ ounce of Triple Sec that would have added over 50 calories per drink when I made Cosmopolitans for my friends. Alexis of TheExhaustedMom.com, publisher of Thirsty Thursday, shared, “They were very delicious. I almost forgot I wasn’t drinking real sugar. I will definitely make these at home!” The simple syrup for the cosmo was made using water and Truvia the night before.
We also made a big pitcher of Raspberry Lojito, which were a huge hit – Tom’s favorite. The natural sweetness of the fruit, along with Truvia, made this drink sweeter than the cosmo. Fun cocktail stirrers also kicked it up a notch!
It was a great night, full of great cocktails, delicious foods and fantastic friends! Check the recipes below and be sure to visit Truvia.com for additional cocktail recipes! You can find Truvia at your local grocery sold in individual packs or large, spoon-able, container.
