Silly Pasta Shapes – Become a pasta designer! Win a $100 AMEX card!

I get so excited when I hear, “Mom, can we have pasta and sauce for dinner?”  I honestly feel like it’s a special gift from someone upabove who is trying to cut me some slack after a chaotic day.

My husband is more often than not, not home for dinner these days – he works long hours.  With a preschooler and infant at home, well, you can just imagine what the witching hour (5-7PM) can be like around here!

I like love to cook, but have given up on complicated yummy recipes for nights when I’m the only adult eating.  Don’t get me wrong, I do make good, yummy dinner for me and the preschooler, but they do tend to be less complicated.

I have found that a jar of sauce and a box of pasta can be a busy mom’s best friend.  Boiling water and heating up sauce is as simple as it gets.  I even keep a loaf of frozen garlic bread in the freezer to hit up as needed.

Jazzing up this easy meal is as simple as switching up the pasta.  Traditional spaghetti is great, but why not bowties or elbows or even the corckscrews instead?!  My daughter loves the bowties!  How about you?  What pasta shape gets the best attention in your home?

After recently watching the Project Runway episode where the contestants get to design their own fabric I thought about pasta.  Yes, odd, but it did happen.  I wondered what if I could design my own pasta shape?  We’ve seen the traditional Italian shapes, and even cartoon ones used on Macaroni & Cheese boxes.  But, how would your kids react if you served them a bowl of pasta in the shape of pumpkins during Halloween or turkeys at Thanksgiving?  Tom said that a bowl of rockets and spaceships would have had him smiling as a young boy – and even now!

I invite you to use your imagination to design your own pasta shape that your family would love!  I am also interested to know what you would serve it with!  Here’s my design and meal:

A bowl of pasta shaped like (princesses & castles) topped with sauce and (parm) would make my family giggle but full!

To dream big on designing my own pasta, I’d make it with pictures of family on it. Or, even the art my husband makes cuz I think it would make me or my family want to fix & eat pasta more. Either way, I would pair it with a white sauce cuz we’re big cheese lovers, plus why would I want to bury that piece of art (so to speak!) with a bunch of red sauce &/or meat!! But then I don’t think they or I would want to eat it cuz it’d look just too good to eat, lol! Regardless tho, in the end, it will be fun & we’ll be full!
