Recall Wednesday – Many items this week!

Below are the CPSC recalls I have received over the past week. Please be sure to review the information provided. All information below comes directly from the listserve emails I received. Please see the CPSC website for further, more detailed information.

Name of Product: Cybex Treadmills
Hazard: The treadmills can speed up unexpectedly while in use due to a malfunction with the lower control board, posing a fall hazard to consumers.
Description: The recall involves the Cybex 445T, 455T, 530T, 450T, 500T, 515T, and 520T treadmill models. The treadmills are black and gray with rectangular uprights. The 530T style treadmill is 81 inches long by 32 inches wide. The 445T style treadmill is 72 inches long by 32 inches wide. The treadmills have a display panel on a console as wide as the treadmill. “Cybex” and the model number are written on the console.
Sold at: Cybex International and Cybex dealers nationwide from January 2001 through September 2008 for between $5,500 and $7,000.

Name of Product: Ghost Tealight Holders
Hazard: The recalled tealight holder can ignite posing a fire and burn hazard to consumers.
Description: The recalled product is a metal tealight candle holder in the shape of ghost. The product is white with a black base. They were sold by Crate & Barrel as a set of 3 (SKU #370-846 and/or Catalog Item #X2006) and by other retailers as individual units (SKU #770123). The SKU can be located on the product’s packaging.
Sold through: Crate & Barrel’s October catalog and stores nationwide from August 2008 to October 2008 for about $10 for a set of 3, and other houseware retail stores nationwide from August 2008 to October 2008 for between $3 and $5 for individually packaged units.

Name of Product: Casper the Friendly Ghost(r) Halloween Mini-Figurines
Hazard: The recalled Halloween figurines contain high levels of lead in the paint.
Description: The recalled Casper the Friendly Ghost(r) mini-figurines are made of resin and paper, and are three inches tall. They were sold in mini bags decorated with a spider and web design. The Casper the Friendly Ghost(r) figurines are dressed as: Dracula in a red spider bag, Skeleton in a green spider bag, Devil in a purple spider bag, Mummy in an orange spider bag, Casper(r) in a blue spider bag, and Wendy the Witch(r) is in a yellow spider bag. The figurines are stamped with TM & (c)Harvey Ent. “Coyne’s & Company” and “CP1030” are printed on a white sticker on the bottom of the bags.
Sold by: Gift, specialty, card, and drug stores nationwide from June 2005 through September 2008 for between $1 and $3.

Name of Product: Wooden Toys
Hazard: Small parts can detach and break from the toy, posing a choking hazard to young children. In addition, the size of the rattle handle violates voluntary rattle standards.
Description: This recall involves three models of wooden toys. Moee the car, Cubby the stackable bear and the Bell rattle. The toys are painted in glossy red, orange, green, red, black and yellow.
Sold at: Toy specialty stores in Alaska, California, Colorado, Montana, Nevada, Oregon, and Washington from April 2008 through September 2008 for between $12 and $22.

Name of Product: Homelite Chain Saws
Hazard: The chain brake can fail to stop the chain on its first application, posing a risk of laceration to consumers.
Description: This recall involves Homelite brand chain saws with the following model numbers: UT10514, UT10516, UT10517, UT10518, UT10520, UT10540, UT10560 and UT10918. Affected chain saws have manufacture date between November 2007 and August 2008. Both the model number and the date of manufacture appear on the chain saw’s data plate, located beneath the rear handle of the saw. Products with a green “dot” sticker under the bottom side of the handle area and on the outside of the package are not subject to this recall.
Sold exclusively at: Home Depot stores nationwide between December 2007 and October 2008 for between $110 and $200.

Name of Product: Fit & Fresh(tm) Smooth Blend Mixers
Hazard: While placing the cup on or off the base of the mixer, the mixer can unexpectedly turn on, activating the blade. This can pose a serious laceration hazard to consumers.
Description: This recall involves Fit & Fresh(tm) Smooth Blend Mixers with item number 770FF and model number SB-19. The white mixers have four components – a base unit, blade assembly, blending cup and cap. Fit & Fresh(tm) is printed on the front of the base. The recalled mixers can be identified by the date code, a four-digit number located on the bottom of the base. Date codes included in the recall are: 2707, 4407, 5207 and 0308.

Name of Product: DYMO(r) LabelWriter(r) Power Adapters used with printers
Hazard: The power adapters can fail, causing the printer to overheat. This can pose a burn hazard to consumers.
Description: This recall involves the external power adapters sold with the following DYMO LabelWriter(r) 400 series printers: DYMO LabelWriter 400, DYMO LabelWriter 400 Turbo, DYMO LabelWriter Twin Turbo, DYMO LabelWriter Duo and DYMO Desktop Mailing Solution with housing date codes 2407, 2507, 2607 or 2707. The date code is printed on the plastic housing of the adapter. Power adapters with “RoHS” printed on the top right of the product label are not included in this recall.
Sold by: Office supply stores, discount retailers, and various specialty retailers nationwide from September 2007 through October 2008 for between $100 and $250.

Hazard: These lithium-ion batteries can overheat, posing a fire and burn hazard to consumers.

Name of Product: Krylon “Outdoor Spaces” UV Fabric Protector
Hazard: Overexposure to fumes, vapor or spray mist from the product can pose a serious respiratory hazard to consumers.
Description: The recall involves Krylon “Outdoor Spaces” UV Fabric Protector, which is an aerosol coating used to protect fabric. The part number (#2900) is printed above the UPC (724504029007) on the side of the can. The front of the 11-ounce aerosol can is tan with a picture of a patio containing outdoor furniture. “UV Fabric Protector” and “Outdoor Spaces” are also printed on the front of the can.
Sold at: Wal-Mart, Ace Hardware and other retail stores nationwide from January 2006 through September 2008 for about $7.

Name of Product: Toy Xylophones
Hazard: Surface paint on the toy xylophone contains excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard.
Description: This recall involves a miniature toy xylophone with item number KW20119. The toy xylophone measures about 12 inches long by 5 inches wide. It has a lavender frame, a lavender mallet, and four bars which are orange, yellow, green, and white. The item number can be found on the packaging.
Sold at: Dollar Zone “giant”, Sam 99 Cent Store, and 99 Cents Mart in Texas from December 2007 through February 2008 for about $1.

Name of Product: “Mini-Televisor” Toys
Hazard: Surface coating on the toy television could contain excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard.
Description: This recall involves a plastic TV toy. This plastic TV toy has a microphone and is powered by 2 AA size batteries. There is a “TV Painting Board” sticker label on the front panel and carrying handle of the toy.
Sold at: OKK Trading’s Web site at http://www.okktoys.com/ from July 2008 through September 2008 for about $1.
