Back to School for Moms, Too!

It isn’t just time for the kids. Moms and Dads enjoy back to school time for a variety of reasons. Back to school for moms may mean more time for mom to have mom-time. The kids are occupied all day, I mean yes, they’re learning, and mom is running around doing stuff! We’re all on a schedule. That’s what I love best. I can schedule in time for me!

Back To School
Teacher Back to School Time

One thing I have loved about the start of school comes from my days of being a teacher. Each September when I would begin a new school year it was an opportunity to start anew. There aren’t many professions that have a start and end date every year. With teaching I could set new goals, new plans and more in September. Yes, they wouldn’t all stick but at least I would get the chance to try to become an even better teacher.

Mom Back to School Time

As a mom, back to school time also gives me the chance to start anew. Last week, as it was our 1st week back, I made some personal and family pledges.

As a family, we would plan out our dinner menu (Go to: DIY dinner menu board) together each Sunday. We would have one meat-free day each week. We would be more active with evening walks and bike rides.

I made some pledges with myself. I had fallen out of the routine of a proper skin care routine. I am blessed with easy to maintain skin. But, I know as I age, my skin (is already) loses elasticity. I want to keep my youthful looking face a long as possible.

I have taken a pledge to do a better job washing my face – particularly using something other than bath soap. I have also pledged to properly moisturize my face with anti-wrinkle cream. (I do already remember to put on sunscreen!)

Each evening I am now scrubbing my face with a gentle scrub and immediately moisturizing my face with an anti-wrinkle cream. So far, so good. I have kept up my commitment for a new me for the last 9 days! My new routine is easily integrated to my schedule and I truly feel so much better knowing that my face is cleaner and properly protected!

  1. My kids go back this week and I have mixed feelings about it. It will be nice to get back into a routine, but I will miss them.

  3. I can totally relate to the teacher “new year” too. I’m so thrilled I don’t have to go back this week. It feels great. I love your family’s goals! We are about to do the same. I love the bike ride/walk idea!

  4. I have already started trying to get myself into a better routine in preparation for this school year. I need to take time every morning to get ready so that I feel like I am ready face the day. Getting a good workout in, a shower and taking time to get ready does that for me. I need to work on that!

  5. There are times that I miss the start of a new school year from a teacher perspective! The newness of a fresh group of kids in a room that’s bright, clean, and just for them and oh– how can I forget the new school supplies like sharp #2 pencils and Crayola crayons waiting to be used by my students!

  6. BACK TO SCHOOL WINS AT LIFE! << Can you tell I'm new to the whole having two kids at "big kid" school all day long thing? (My youngest is a first time kindergartner this year.)

  7. Back to school, back to a routine. Summer routines were tough and we are out of shape on our routines. This also means that I get more workout time so back in shape for me.
