Recall Wednesday – Handlebar Stems Used on Salsa Bicycles, Fishing Games, Rattles, Pull-A-Long Cars, Mini Pull Back Cars, &Cartoon Bubble Guns…
Below are the CPSC recalls I have received this past week. Note that 1 of the recalls is for toys sold at dollar stores and toy stores. All information comes directly from the listserve email sent by the CPSC. Please see the CPSC website for further, more detailed information on all recalled products mentioned below.

Hazard: The handlebar stems can crack or break, posing a fall hazard to the consumer.

Description: This recall involves all CroMoto S.U.L. stems sold as individual aftermarket units and on these models of complete Salsa bicycles: Ala Carte, El Mariachi, Casseroll Triple, Casseroll Single and La Cruz. The aftermarket stems are black and have the word “Salsa” painted on the extension. The complete bike stems are painted to match the bike model color and have the word “Salsa” painted on the extension. The recalled stems range from 75 through 105-degree rise and extension length from 90 to 120mm. Sold by: Specialty bicycle retailers nationwide from November 2007 through December 2008 for between $880 and $1870 for complete bikes. The aftermarket stems were sold at specialty bicycle retailers nationwide and via web sites from March 2008 through December 2008 for between $60 and $65.

Hazard: The fishing games, baby rattles and pull-a-long cars contain small parts, which can detach and pose a choking hazard to children. The mini pull back cars and bubble guns have surface paints which contain excessive levels of lead, violating the federal lead paint standard.

Name of product: Children’s flip flops
Hazard: Decorative paint on the sole of the flip flops can contain levels of lead in excess of the federal standard.
Description: Flip flops of the Havaianas brand containing decorative paint were sold under the following model names: Baby Estampas, Baby Pets, Kids Apple, Kids Fairy, Kids Flores, Kids Lighthouse, Kids Monsters, Kids Surf, Baby Letrinhas, Kids Sports, Kids Candies, Kids Fun, Kids Love, Kids Sereias, Kids Speed, Kids Lucky Bug, Kids Pets, Kids Rock, Kids Slim, Kids Wonder Woman, Kids Small Flowers and Kids Tropical w/Kit. A photo of a representative flip flop is provided below. Havaianas flip flops without decorative paint are not being recalled.
Sold by: Department and specialty stores nationwide from November 2006 through February 2009 for about $15 to $24 a pair.
Name of product: Bowflex® Ultimate 2 Home Gyms
Hazard: The home gym’s horizontal seat rail is designed to be latched in a vertical position for storage. If the seat rail is not manually latched, it can fall unexpectedly on the user or a bystander, posing a risk of serious injury.
Description: This recall involves the Bowflex® Ultimate 2 Home Gyms. The home gyms are equipped with pulleys, resistance rods, and other equipment, which allow the user to perform a variety of exercises. “Bowflex Ultimate 2” is written on the vertical part of the frame.
Sold at: Specialty fitness retailers nationwide and through direct Nautilus sales from June 2005 through January 2009 for about $2,300.
