4 Sunscreen Facts and More

Family travel during the summer is a must. The trips may be a local, at the beach, at an amusement park, or a cool and interesting locale. Wherever you may travel with your family this summer there are many essential items you must bring. Previously I’ve shared the 5 medical items families should travel with, but with the summer heat there is one more item that you must include.

For summer travel, it is essential to be prepared with quality and sufficient sunscreen! We have all learned so well the horrible effects the sun’s rays can have on our skin. We must be responsible parents and regularly apply & reapply sunscreen to ourselves and children. Here are some important facts about sunscreen:

Did you know that even while wearing sunscreen your body will absorb some Vitamin D?

Yes, it won’t be as much as if you were not wearing sun protection, but you will get some of the well-needed nutrient.

Did you know that sunscreen does expire?

The ingredients will lose the effectiveness over time. Plus, there is an chance of bacteria growth in and around the container. Buy a new bottles each each year.

Did you know that you need to allow 15 minutes to allow the lotion to saturate your skin?

Give you body time to absorb the sun protection. If you jump into the water too quickly it may easily come off.

Did you know that women under 40 have a higher probability of developing melanoma than any other cancer, with the exception of breast cancer?

I don’t think there is much more I can say than that. Wear sunscreen to potentially save your life! Our packing list for our upcoming beach vacation with family & friends was recently formalized as we all gathered to plan out what to pack. There was one item I wanted to be sure every family had. Thanks to Johnson &  Johnson I had great little goodie bags full of some healthy essentials for our trip. Of course there was sunscreen, as well as some Band-Aids and Neosporin! We are now all set for our trip!
