Recall Wednesday: Gap Bating Suit, Saks Sweatshirt, Roman Shades, Targus Adapter, Graco Crib, Inversion Bench & Buoyancy Compensator

Below are the CPSC recalls that I have received since Wednesday, April 28, 2010.  Sweatshirts, bathing suits and more make out this week’s list.

As a reminder:

In February 1996, CPSC issued guidelines(pdf) (which were incorporated into an industry voluntary standard in 1997) to help prevent children from strangling or getting entangled in the neck and waist drawstrings in upper garments, such as jackets or sweatshirts.

Name of Product: Buoyancy Compensators used for Scuba Diving
Hazard: The buoyancy compensator seal ring could crack, posing a drowning hazard to divers.
Description: This recall involves buoyancy compensators with the following model numbers. Buoyancy compensators provide buoyancy control for scuba divers by allowing them to inflate or deflate the devices. The compensators were sold in black or red. “OMS” is printed on the front inside of the compensators. Item and serial numbers are printed on the warning label located in the non-inflation area of the buoyancy compensator. A list of serial numbers included in this recall is available from the firm.
Sold at: Dive stores nationwide from May 2006 through August 2008 for about $400.

Name of Product: Children’s hooded sweatshirts with drawstrings
Hazard:
The sweatshirts have a drawstring through the hood that can pose a strangulation hazard to children.
Description:
This recall involves three styles of children hooded sweatshirts with drawstrings. The zippered sweatshirts were sold in sizes XS through 3XL. The HAY style sweatshirts were sold in black, navy, light grey, charcoal grey and pink. The HKK style sweatshirts were sold in black, navy, light blue, light grey, pink and red. The JMK sweatshirts are reversible microfiber with polar fleece lining and a removable hood with elastic or retractable drawstrings. Style JMK was sold in black only. The sweatshirts have sewn-in neck tag that reads “Gogo Sports” and city names printed across the front of the garment.
Sold at: Clothing retail stores in California, Colorado, Hawaii and New Mexico from January 2008 through December 2009 for between $14 and $27.

Name of Product: Nordic Track Revitalize, Gold’s Gym, and Weider Club Inversion Benches
Hazard: The ankle clamp can release unexpectedly or the strap used to limit rotation can break, posing a fall hazard to consumers.
Description: This recall involves the Nordic Track Revitalize Inversion Bench 2.0 model 831.14895.0, Gold’s Gym Inversion System models GGBE0867.0 and GGCCBE0867.0 and Weider Club Inversion System model WEBE0878.0. The model number is located under the backrest of the bench. The inversion systems consist of a frame with a backrest, headrest and leg clamp assembly.
Sold at: Sporting good stores, Walmart, Sears and other retailers nationwide from April 2008 through February 2009 for between $200 and $300.

Name of Product: Graco®-branded drop side cribs made by LaJobi
Hazard: The drop side hardware can break or fail, allowing the drop side to detach from the crib. When the drop side detaches, a hazardous gap is created between the drop side and the crib mattress in which infants and toddlers can become wedged or entrapped, posing a risk of suffocation and strangulation. In addition, children can fall from the cribs when the drop side detaches or fails to lock.
Description: This recall involves LaJobi-manufactured Graco® wood cribs. The full size cribs were sold in cherry, espresso, natural and white finishes. The production date, item number, purchase order number and finish name is printed on a label affixed to the footboard or headboard. “LaJobi” and the crib model name are printed on a product sticker located on the stabilizer bar or bottom rail of the crib. Affected models are listed on the CPSC website.
Sold at: Children’s product stores and other retailers nationwide from February 2007 to March 2010 for between $140 and $200.

Name of Product: Chain sets sold with Metalux light fixtures
Hazard: An “S” hook on the chain connecting the fixture to the ceiling can straighten when subjected to high impact forces, resulting in the light fixture falling. This poses an injury hazard to consumers.
Description:
This recall involves the AYC or HBAYC model chain set for use in a gymnasium or similar recreational facility with one of the following Metalux commercial light fixtures: F-Bay HB/2HB; F-Bay 2HBHD; F-Bay HBE; F-Bay HBHT; F-Bay HBI; F-Bay HBL; F-Bay 2HE Series 2HE; Arctic Bay AB; or Arctic Bay ABI.
Sold at: Authorized distributors nationwide from May 2006 through March 2010 for between $1.50 and $3.

Name of Product: Targus Universal Wall Power Adapters for Laptops
Hazard: F
aulty wiring can cause the connector tips to heat and melt the plastic encasing the connector tips, posing a burn hazard to consumers.
Description:
This recall involves the Targus Universal Wall Power Adapters for Laptops. Only models with the following SKU numbers are affected by this recall: APA23US-02, APA23US-03, APA23US-04, APA63US-03, APA63US-04, APM62US-03 and APM62US-04. The SKU number can be found on the underside of the adapter unit.

WalMart, Best Buy, Office Depot, Staples, Amazon.com and other retailers nationwide from June 2009 through March 2010 for between $89 and 109 for adapters for wall outlets only and for between $129 and $149 for adapters for both wall outlets and car/airplane use.

Name of Product: Baby swimsuits
Hazard: The swimsuits have halter straps that were manufactured too short causing the plastic ring located at the neck of the swimsuit to press against the child’s throat and obstruct the airway. This poses a strangulation hazard to the child.
Description:
The baby swimsuits were sold in two styles: number 706260 is blue and white and number 700452 is red and white. The style number can be found on the label located on the swimsuit. Both swimsuits were sold in infant sizes up to 24 months and are made of a synthetic knit stretch fabric of polyester and spandex. The straps are made of the same material as the body.

Name of Product: Children’s Hooded Velour Sweatshirts with Drawstrings
Hazard: The hooded sweatshirts have a drawstring at the neck which can pose a strangulation hazard to children.
Description: This recall involves hooded sweatshirts sold under the “Sweet Tart” brand name in three styles: G80072873C in navy with rhinestones in the shape of a star; G80072874M in pink with rhinestones in the shape of a peace sign; and G80072875F in gray with rhinestones in the shape of a heart. The sweatshirts were sold in children’s sizes XS, S, M and L and the name “Sweet Tart” can be found on the neck label.
Sold at: Saks Off 5th Avenue outlet stores from July 2009 to April 2010.

Name of Product: Roman Shades
Hazard: Strangulations can occur when a child places his/her neck between the exposed inner cord and the fabric on the backside of the blind or when a child pulls the cord out and wraps it around his/her neck
Description: This recall involves three styles of Roman shades; standard, tasseled and Duppioni. Style and item number information is listed below.
Sold at: Blair and other retail stores in Warren and Grove City, Pa., Blair catalogs and www.blair.com between April 2007 and January 2010 for between $15 and $65.
