Put a stick in it California Fruit Flag

A recent staycation theme has been California. Due to budget constraints and a big move in July, we’re staying local, very local (HOME) for our vacation time. To make it a bit more interesting and exciting, especially for the 5 year old, we decided to head to California, from the comfort of our living room of course! We learned all about the state, its capital, population, attractions and foods that are commonly eaten and grown there.California State Flag

During a trip to Publix during our “California Week” she immediately noticed foods that were grown in California. Of course we had to buy them! Although sampling the foods at home was a challenge. She’s a veggie eater, not a fruit eater.

I’ve found that skewers are quite powerful. No, not to poke your enemy but to get you child to enjoy a new food. Our California fruit basket wasn’t going to get eaten without some enticement.

A joint effort of creativity, got us to skewer some of the “California” fruits and make them in the form of the USA flag. It was a blast. Best of all, she devoured the California fruit skewers!
