Piece of the Week – The Challenge – empty soup can

As you know, I am a strong advocate of reusing, renewing and recycling. I am constantly finding ways to keep from trashing items that I can reuse at home!!! Not only does this help the environment but saves $$$$!

Piece of the Week Challenge #1: empty soup can

With autumn and winter quickly upon us, we will have soup cans gathering at home. Please email or comment suggestions on how to reuse an empty soup can.

I will select one idea and post it as my feature for next Thursday’s Piece of the Week!

  1. Labels would stick to these well so maybe putting small toys in them or pieces to games and labeling them would be a neat idea. They make plastic “lids” for pepsi cans. You MAY be able to put craft paint especially mixed colors in the can and use one of the cheap plastic pepsi can lid covers to keep it from drying out. I’ve never tried it, just an idea.

  2. I take soup cans and we use a wine bottle corkscrew or a nail with a hammer to make holes in a pattern on the can. For Halloween, I punch out pumpkins and cats. Then I place a small candle push light (battery) in the can and let it glow.

My Mom paints the cans orange and punches out jack 0 lattern faces from the can.

  3. I’m one of Dawn’s friends. Thought I’d comment. I use one of the Pampered Chef openers (the one that leaves no sharp edges) to open the cans. It leaves a nice little lid that can be glued back on. I clean the can and then fill with goodies. Perfect for birthday party treat “bags.” I then cover the outside of the can with decorated scrapbook paper. I use crazy glue to glue the lid back on. This works perfect for the pop top cans. Open the bottom of the can and leave the pop top intact.
