Leticia Barr a Woman Who Shines – Yahoo! Shine Nominee

I began as a classroom teacher with an obvious obsession with all things technology. I met Leticia at a technology training for teachers in the school district. We instantly connected. From that 1st encounter I saw why Leticia was so highly regarded as a teacher. Not only was she an accomplished 1st grade teacher so was an unbelievable teacher of teachers – especially in the realm of technology integration. Over the next 12+ years Leticia and I would continue to cross paths as our friendship developed and careers changed.

I am honored to nominate entrepreneur, teacher, and mentor Leticia Barr of TechSavvyMama.com and contributor to various online & offline publications, to the Yahoo Shine! – Women Who Shine.

My nomination, as submitted at Yahoo! Shine:Leticia Barr

Leticia shines brightly as a mentor & friend. She has empowered me to be successful in my career as a classroom teacher, technology specialist & blogger. Through her confidence & support, I have learned the true meaning of a mentor & have propelled throughout every aspect of my career.

Most recently, Leticia inspired me to begin blogging, after a severe injury left me sofa-ridden for some time. This encouragement was the perfect way to distract my time & make great use of my knowledge & experience with technology. She knew that & guided me through those initials months of blogging.

In the years since my blog launch, Leticia continues to share tremendous amounts wisdom & motivation. Even with a demanding & busy schedule, Leticia still invites me to call or email her at any moment. She’s happy to run through a proposal, critique a new logo or help brainstorm new opportunities. She is always genuinely happy to talk & support myself and others.

She’s inspired me to be a mentor. A mutual friend, Alexis, recently began blogging. She’s local to my area & have dedicated time to help her launch her blogging career. I try to make myself available to her in the same manner Leticia has made herself to me. I hope Alexis will feel the love and support that I have received from Leticia and will also return the mentorship to another. Leticia has started the domino effect of mentoring. I’m blessed to be a domino.

I invite you to support my nomination by visiting Yahoo! Shine and voting for Leticia or nominating a special woman in your life. Yahoo! Shine wants to celebrate women who are blazing new trails, changing lives, and doing extraordinary things every day.

Help give these inspiring women the recognition they deserve by nominating them for Women Who Shine.  The woman who receives the most votes by the end of the program will win a $10,000 cash prize* (see terms and conditions) (http://shine.yahoo.com/women-who-shine/rules)!

  1. I am so honored by the amazing things you said about me through your nomination. Thank you. From the bottom of my heart, thank you! Isn’t it crazy to think that we’ve known each other before blogging, husbands, marriage, and kids?!? And thank goodness for a common obsession with technology that brought us together and keeps us in touch to this day! xo

  2. I was going to nominate Leticia also!! Doesn’t that just say it all that so many people feel blessed to have her in their life. I still remember meeting her in 1999…it feels like it was yesterday. She was a mentor in the classroom, and she will always be my mentor. (I actually think I still have a key to her house….hmmmm) I LOVE LETICIA! We have to make shirts….

And yes, Caroline, you are an amazing mentor as well!! Love you both!
