Breakfast in the Keys, Key Largo Conch House Does It Right

Key Largo Lobster Benedict

Family friendly dining is a must, especially on vacation. The Key Largo Conch House is a great spot in the Florida Keys to have an affordable great meal with top-notch attentive service, within an atmosphere that really doesn’t mind if your toddler is crying or your 6 year old knocks over her chocolate milk. If your vacation itinerary has some room for a good meal in Key Largo, you must take some time to enjoy a great dish at the Key Largo Conch House.

Breakfast in the Keys

I recently headed to the Key Largo Conch House for breakfast, with a large group that included 3 kids (middle schooler, kindergartener and a toddler.) We spent an hour and a half talking, enjoying our meal and loving the laid back Florida Keys attitude.

Breakfast in the Keys

Wether you’re living or visiting Miami – you’re in a tropical paradise. There are  plenty of beautiful beaches, great restaurants and cultural attractions, but we often forget that within an hour’s drive the opportunities expand. To top it off,  the drive getting there is phenomenal – an attraction in itself. Key Largo is a great day-trip from Miami, taking just over an hour when heading from South Beach. The Key Largo Conch House is a great place to get away from the big city and get the Keys vibe while enjoying a superb cuisine.

For 8 years Laura Dreaver and her husband Ted have put their heart and soul into the Key Largo Conch House. It’s right off, and I mean right off the highway – you are a stone’s throw from US1 when standing in the beautiful little patio and garden area. The Dreaver’s have done it right and well. The service is outstanding and the food fantastic. I can personally testify that after enjoying more than one meal here I look forward to my next. Remember my review of the outstanding fish tacos I had there a few years back? Well, this more recent visit was during Sunday brunch and it most certainly lived up to that midday meal. I’m thinking that I now need to make the time to try their dinner.

Breakfast Menu

You’re in the Florida Keys. There is bound to be a hint of local fish at breakfast. I had it big time. I enjoyed devoured their Lobster Eggs Benedict, which is only available during Florida Lobster Season (August – Mid-March.) It was outstanding.

The breakfast menu has the standard dishes, like eggs, pancakes and sandwiches. But the Key Largo Conch House takes it a step further – making it a real Florida Keys eatery. There is fresh, local fish incorporated in many of their breakfast meals, including: conch omelet, shrimp benedict and crab cake benedict. Tom had the Southwest Benedict that serves the poached eggs atop cornbread. He raved about the dish. A Healthy Lite Bites menu includes items for those health-conscious brunch diners. Prices for different breakfast platters range from $6.95 for a standard omelet to $19.95 for that unbelievable Lobster Benedict. A number of side items, most under $5, are available.

Chocolate Chip Pancakes

The Children’s Menu stems from their love of their own grandchildren. They know what kids like, what parents like and keep it at a very reasonable price, especially at breakfast. My 6 year old enjoyed the Chocolate Chip Pancake & Bacon. It was an appropriate size for a 6 year old – just one large pancake and 2 slices of crispy bacon. She ate every last bite.

Other items on the children’s breakfast menu include, scrambled eggs, french toast, bagel, fruit and yogurt. Prices range from $2.95 to $4.95.

The breakfast menus are available until 11 AM on weekdays and noon on weekends.

Locals and visitors should get ready to enjoy a delicious breakfast at the Key Largo Conch House. Diners will receive great service and a scrumptious meal! The Key Largo Conch House is on MM 100 on the lefthand-side of US1 when heading SOUTH. See you there!

  1. I wish we had found this restaurant when we were driving through Key Largo last year….though I would have had to wait until lunch time to have fish tacos (my favorite dish!).
