A frita recipe may be my favorite burger recipe, but eatlier this month I visited The Filling Station, makers of the very best cheeseburger. It was incredible. Their burger remains in the running for the Sargento America’s Ultimate Cheeseburger – and it’s winning, by a lot! Have you voted?
I’m a toppings girl. I like it all on my burger. Sautéed onions, pickles, mustard, ketchup, lettuce, tomato, cheese….I could go on. I also like to go traditional, in a Cuban sort of way. A cuban hamburger is called a frita. These burgers are more like sliders in size. S frita recipe includes similar ingredients as a traditional American burger, but with a cuban twist, of course.
- 1 lb. ground beef
- ¼ cup milk
- ½ cup breadcrumbs
- 1 tablespoon of diced onion
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- 1 tablespoon ketchup
- 2 teaspoons salt
- ½ teaspoon paprika
- ½ teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce
- ¼ teaspoon ground pepper
- Oil to fry fritas
- Wet breadcrumbs with milk. Add to beef.
- Add egg and remaining ingredients. Mix.
- Form 16 small discs. Store on wax paper and set to chill in the refrigerator for a few hours.
- Pan fry with a bit of oil.
- Serve with chips or potato sticks.
The standard topping for a Cuban Frita is potato sticks and ketchup. Throwing a slice of cheese on top makes it even better. I prefer cheese with a kick like the Sargento Colby Pepper Jack that The Filling Station used in their burger. Have you ever tried making a frita? Will you try to this easy cuban frita recipe@ Be sure to add your cheeseburger recipe on the Sargento Facebook page!
